My name is Joel Mason. I am a Canadian artist born and raised in Stratford, Ontario.

My principal subject matter is animals and landscapes, most of which are inspired by the forests and lakes surrounding my cottage in the Algonquin Highlands near Muskoka, as well as the scenery of my hometown of Stratford. The major influences on my work are Tom Thomson, who often painted landscapes inspired by his trips to Algonquin Park, and the Group of Seven, who were a group of landscape painters who did a lot of paintings inspired by Canadian landscapes. Among the Group of Seven, the biggest influence on my work is Lawren Harris, whose paintings were more abstract and simplified. My primary mediums are drawing and painting. In 2015, I completed a Bachelor of Arts (Three-year General Studio Art) at the University of Waterloo.
